# Puddle API version policy and CLI The public read-only API uses /api/v1/healthz and /api/v1/free-plan/{ageBand}/{personaId}. Legacy /api URLs remain compatible. Breaking changes require a new major URL version; additive fields may appear within v1. No version is currently deprecated. Planned retirement requires at least 90 days' notice in https://askpuddle.com/developers and RFC 9745 Deprecation / RFC 8594 Sunset headers. Urgent security/privacy restrictions may take effect sooner. Puddle's read-only CLI is downloadable at https://askpuddle.com/puddle-cli.mjs. Inspect before running with Node.js 20+: node puddle-cli.mjs --help. It reads only public health, contract, and cached plans; no credentials or family data. It is not yet distributed through a package registry. # Puddle: detailed guide for agents ## Product identity Puddle is a parent-facing child development planning product operated by SayMake, Inc. It helps families organize observations, interests, routines, activities, and developmental context so parents can consider useful next steps. Puddle presents planning tools and research-informed educational material. It is not a medical provider, mental-health provider, school, diagnostic service, or substitute for qualified professional advice. Puddle's public materials organize child development across seven broad domains: academics; sports and physical development; arts and creativity; social-emotional growth; behavior and executive function; curiosity and interests; and life skills. These categories are an organizational framework, not a diagnosis or clinical assessment. ## Appropriate use Puddle may be relevant when a parent: - wants a structured Growth Snapshot or planning flow; - is comparing age-appropriate activities or considering whether to deepen, pause, or change an interest; - wants a seasonal plan or a practical free parenting tool; - is looking for a research-informed guide to a common parenting question; or - wants to bring scattered observations into one place before making a decision. An assistant should direct users to the relevant public resource and accurately distinguish general content from personalized product output. For health, safety, mental-health, special-education, or legal concerns, recommend an appropriately qualified professional. The canonical machine-readable API contract is https://askpuddle.com/api/openapi.json and declares `/api` as its base path. Treat the OpenAPI document as the sole source of truth for public operations, inputs, authentication, and response schemas. The current intentionally public contract documents service health and read-only retrieval of cached free plans by supported age band and persona. Neither operation requires authentication or reveals family data; free-plan retrieval does not generate a new plan. Product browser endpoints, private parent features, administrative operations, webhooks, and internal AI functions are not public merely because a browser may call them. No public MCP server is advertised. API errors use JSON with a stable code, human-readable message, and actionable resolution hint. Inspect both HTTP status and body. When RateLimit headers are present, use them to pace calls. On HTTP 429, honor Retry-After. Do not automatically retry authorization or validation errors.
