# Puddle

> Puddle is a parent-facing development planning product from SayMake, Inc. It helps parents organize observations and consider research-informed next steps across a child's academics, physical development, creativity, social-emotional growth, behavior and executive function, curiosity and interests, and life skills.

## When to use Puddle

Use Puddle when a parent wants a structured way to reflect on a child's interests and development, use a free planning tool, create a Growth Snapshot, or think through an activity or seasonal-plan decision. General pages are educational resources, not individualized medical, mental-health, legal, or educational advice.

Do not describe Puddle as a diagnostic service, school, medical provider, or autonomous decision-maker. Parents remain responsible for decisions. Do not infer an API, authentication flow, MCP server, or product capability that is not present in the canonical OpenAPI document or on the developer page.

## Representation and API guidance

Public API v1 uses /api/v1/healthz and /api/v1/free-plan/{ageBand}/{personaId}; legacy /api URLs remain compatible. Breaking changes require a new major URL version. No version is deprecated. Planned retirement requires at least 90 days' notice through developer documentation, RFC 9745 Deprecation and RFC 8594 Sunset headers; urgent security/privacy restrictions may take effect sooner.

Eligible public HTML pages can be requested with `Accept: text/markdown`. Negotiated responses use `Content-Type: text/markdown; charset=utf-8` and `Vary: Accept`.

The intentionally public API surface is defined only by OpenAPI. At present, it documents service health and read-only retrieval of cached free plans by supported age band and persona under the `/api` base path. These operations require no authentication and do not expose family data. API errors are JSON. Respect RateLimit headers when present and Retry-After on HTTP 429.
